Local Business Spotlight – Acqua In Vino
Tell us your story. How did you get started?
Arny Rodriguez’s passion for quality cheeses and wines began with his experiences in Italy where family shared their times together around the table with bread and cheese and wine. It was his desire to share this experience with others, develop their palettes, and not only educate them, but continue to learn more himself.
Describe your business. What do you provide in this market?
The store brings the best selection of locally made, locally sourced cheeses, wines, beers and meats available on the market today. Stemming from Arny’s experience over the years with access to good quality cheese, wines, and other fine foods, our team strives to share their knowledge and passion by keeping the customer at heart. Whether it’s Brie, Gouda, or goat’s milk cheese, red, white, pinot noir or chardonnay, or any of the other smorgasbord of options, individuals are able to easily track down some of Michigan’s finest, fragrant, most revered delicatessens from local producers right in downtown Wayland.
How long have you been in downtown Wayland?
Arny began his rehabilitation project in the spring of 2015 on what had been known as “the blue building north of the library”, now called “Acqua In Vino”, Italian for “Water Into Wine”. The store had it’s grand opening in October 2015.
Owner Arny Rodriguez is no stranger to the City of Wayland, having moved his 35 year-old business, Technical Professional Services, Inc. (TPS), from Middleville to Wayland in 2009. His construction and continued maintenance of the red TPS building across from the Fire Department on the west side continues to beautify the downtown with its well-maintained landscaping. Arny is excited about the changes Acqua In Vino has brought to the south side and the enjoyment of bringing Michigan fare to the local downtown.
How have you seen Wayland Main Street supporting local businesses?
Wayland Main Street is comprised of local individuals joined together for the mutual purpose of promoting awareness and involvement in the Wayland area. The efforts of these individuals has revitalized many areas downtown, although much still needs to be done.
Whats’s the one thing you wish more people would know about your business?
We are here!! Not a week goes by that a new local prospective customer walks in saying they have never been in the store before. Please stop in and meet us and see and taste the amazing products we have to offer.
What’s unique about your business that you can’t get at a chain or online?
Now partnering with other Michigan retailers, Acqua In Vino is creating an experience around buying fine foods and beverages. We have a passionate team willing to do what they do best: guide you through the cases and bottles, sharing the stories of their favorite products and offering small tastes to make you smile.
Why do you think it’s important to shop local?
When you shop at locally owned, independent businesses more money is kept in the community because local businesses often purchase from other local businesses, service providers and suppliers. Buying locally helps grow other businesses as well as our city’s tax base.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We offer a tasting and pairing every Friday night.
